One person died when a passenger boat capsized near Shivaji Smarak off Mumbai. The boat belonged to the Maharashtra Government. The deceased has been identified as one Siddhesh Pawar, 20. The body was sent to St George Hospital. According to initial reports, Coast Guard control room in Mumbai received a call about capsizing of a boat near Shivaji Smarak ( 2.6 Km west of Nariman point). The boat was carrying senior officials of the state including Chief Secretary.
According to the reports ACV H 192 diverted and reached the location within 15 minutes. “Coast Guard hovercraft has reached the spot; our choppers are also involved in the rescue. Most of the people are already rescued, ” Indian Coast Guard said to the media. The Maharashtra state government issued a statement saying that all the occupants of the boat are safe. Coast Guard clarified that there was ‘no capsize’ but ‘just water seeping inside’. Police later confirmed that there were 25 people on board the boat. 24 persons were evacuated safely earlier; one body was recovered by State Control Room- Indian Coast Guard PRO said.
